Risk is inherent in all supply chains. While the headlines of the day – fuel costs spiralling out of control, business chasing competitive world labour costs, extreme currency exchange rate fluctuation, power blackouts, and new regulations – suggest that risk factors are external and beyond control, the truth is more complex. Join the team for the 3rd South African workshop in the Supply Chain Architecture seminar series.
Every supply chain network has natural “fault lines” within its structure. These fault lines depend on the product’s composition, the exact set of network relationships, and the dynamics of market competition. Every trading partner within the network has a management team who may or may not understand how to drive their business within the network context. And, there are external forces at work sending shock waves capable of disrupting the entire network.
Some supply chain networks are brittle, and will easily shatter when struck from just one direction. Other supply chain networks are pliable, and can absorb significant force from simultaneous threats. This full day, interactive seminar engages participants in a set of South African and international business cases that provide a solid understanding of network risk management from the inside out. The approach builds from a fundamental understanding of network architecture, through managing for performance, and through the role of network inventory to provide flexibility, to the ability of the network to absorb various kinds of external shock. The goal is to learn how to build and operate a risk tolerant network.
